Nigerians living in Canada may soon be able to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) closer to home.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is working towards establishing a UTME examination centre in Ottawa, Canada, with operations expected to commence in 2027.

The proposed centre will provide eligible Nigerians in Canada and other parts of North America with easier access to the UTME, particularly those seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

The initiative is expected to reduce the need for eligible candidates in the diaspora to travel to Nigeria solely to take the examination.

Beyond improving access, the proposed centre is also aimed at strengthening the connection between Nigerians in the diaspora and Nigeria’s tertiary education system, while creating opportunities to showcase Nigerian higher education internationally.
