The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has announced plans to improve transcript processing from the next academic session.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Offiong Efanga Offiong, made this known during his maiden town hall meeting with students at the Godswill Akpabio International Conference Centre.
Prof. Offiong revealed that the university is restructuring its transcript unit to improve service delivery.
He said that from the next academic session, every graduating student will automatically receive a copy of their academic transcript, a move aimed at addressing long-standing challenges in transcript processing.
The Vice-Chancellor also assured students that his administration is working to tackle hostel challenges, over-admission, and other issues affecting academic activities.
According to him, efforts are already underway to improve hostel conditions, while the university continues to address concerns raised by various departments.
On infrastructure, Prof. Offiong acknowledged the shortage of classroom spaces and announced that the university library will be rehabilitated with support from TETFund.
He said the project will include the upgrade of classrooms within the library complex, with work expected to begin in the coming months.
The Vice-Chancellor further disclosed that UNICAL will benefit from the Federal Government’s Needs Assessment Initiative, which will support the upgrade of facilities across the campus.
He added that the university is strengthening international partnerships and has been designated as a Centre of Excellence in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence as well as Cybersecurity Sciences.
Prof. Offiong also encouraged students to take advantage of the Federal Government’s NELFUND student loan scheme and acquire entrepreneurial skills that can help them become job creators after graduation.
