Tinubu Appoints Former UNILAG VC as NUC Chairman

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed former University of Lagos (UNILAG) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe, as the new Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The Presidency announced the appointment on Monday.

Professor Ogundipe succeeds Emeritus Professor Olufemi Raphael Aina, who recently stepped down from the position.

Ogundipe is a renowned Professor of Botany, who served as Vice-Chancellor of University of Lagos (UNILAG) from 2017 to 2022 and is currently the Pro-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University.

According to the Presidency, his appointment is to strengthen university education, improve academic standards, expand research opportunities, and enhance the global competitiveness of Nigerian universities.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the appointment, expressing confidence that his experience in university administration will help drive meaningful reforms across the higher education sector.
