A few days ago, JAMB introduced a new admission status feature on the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). Below, we have broken down everything you need to know about this new admission status and what it means for candidates.

Meaning of Admission in Progress Check Back Later on JAMB CAPs Portal

Admission in Progress, Check Back Later (AIP) on the JAMB CAPS Portal means that your school has considered you for admission and has forwarded your name to JAMB for confirmation, verification, and final approval.

In other words, you have met your school’s admission requirements for the academic session, such as JAMB and Post UTME cut-off marks for your chosen course.

However, the admission is still in progress, and JAMB is verifying your admission details, including O-level results, UTME subject combination, admission quota, and other requirements.

Once JAMB has completed the necessary checks, the Board will approve the admission.

Meaning of Your Admission is Being Processed on JAMB CAPS Portal

Your Admission is Being Processed on JAMB CAPS Portal means that your school or institution has considered you for admission and has forwarded your admission details to JAMB for confirmation, verification, and final approval.

In other words, you have met your school’s admission requirements, such as JAMB and Post UTME cut-off marks for your chosen course.

However, the admission is still being processed, and JAMB is verifying your admission details, including O-level results, UTME subject combination, admission quota, and other requirements.

Once JAMB has verified the admission records forwarded by your school and completed the necessary checks, the Board will approve the admission.

Your admission status will then be updated to “Congratulations, your Admission has been APPROVED by JAMB,” which means YOU HAVE BEEN OFFERED ADMISSION.

You will then have the opportunity to either accept or reject the admission using the 55019 JAMB short code.

Once JAMB has verified the admission records recommended by your school and completed the necessary checks, the Board will approve the admission.

Your admission status will then be changed to “Congratulations, your Admission has been APPROVED by JAMB,” which means YOU HAVE BEEN OFFERED ADMISSION.

You will then have the opportunity to either accept or reject the admission using the 55019 JAMB short code.

NB: Your admission status may take a day, a few days, weeks, or months to change to either admitted or not admitted.

Does Admission in Progress, Proposed, or Recommended Guarantee Admission?

The bad news is that NO, but it is 99% guaranteed.

Your JAMB CAPS portal showing admission is in progress, “you have been PROPOSED for admission by your institution”, or “you have been RECOMMENDED for admission to JAMB” does not guarantee automatic admission.

The reason is that if you fail the JAMB verification check, the board will not approve your admission, and your status will revert to not admitted.

What to Do If Your Admission Changes Back to Not Admitted

Here are possible solutions if your admission status reverts back to not admitted or sorry, you have not been given admission yet:

1. Re-upload Your O’level Result
2. Contact JAMB Support to find out the reason
3. Contact Your School to find out the reason
4. Consider a change of course or institution
5. Check your JAMB profile and ensure that there is no error

Meaning of Not Admitted and Sorry, You Have Not Been Given Admission Yet

“Not Admitted” or “Sorry, You Have Not Been Given Admission Yet” on your JAMB CAPS portal means that your school or institution has not yet proposed or recommended you to JAMB for a provisional admission.

In other words, your school is yet to consider or forward your name to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for admission consideration and approval.

It may also mean you are not qualified for admission.
