The Nigerian Law School has warned candidates awaiting Call to Bar to stop wearing wigs and gowns or presenting themselves as qualified lawyers before they are officially called to the Nigerian Bar.
The Council of Legal Education said it has observed an increasing trend of candidates sharing photos and videos on social media dressed in full legal regalia and referring to themselves as legal practitioners.
The Council also warned candidates against using titles such as “Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court” or “Esquire (Esq.)” before they are formally called to the Bar.
It described the practice as a violation of the Legal Practitioners Act and the Rules of Professional Conduct.
The Council directed all affected candidates to immediately remove such posts, photos, and videos from their social media accounts.
It warned that failure to comply could attract disciplinary action and may affect a candidate’s eligibility and fitness to be called to the Nigerian Bar.
